ITANAGAR,Apr 1: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sain disclosed that law enforcement agencies have seized a staggering 936 illegal arms and ammunition items. Additionally, an impressive 24,999 arms were voluntarily deposited, indicating a collective effort to uphold security and lawfulness during the electoral period. Whereas the cumulative value of cash and liquor seizures surpassed an astonishing Rs 11 Crore.
Speaking to the reporters at Nirvachan Bhavan, the CEO stressed on the proactive identification of individuals with a history of disrupting elections. Warning against any attempts to sow discord or disrupt the electoral process, the CEO affirmed that stringent action would be taken against any such activities. To bolster security measures, he highlighted the tireless vigilance of the Nakas, who are working around the clock to monitor and prevent any untoward incidents as well as carrying of cash .
In anticipation of polling day, the CEO revealed that the Commissioner of Tax & Excise had been urged to declare a dry day starting 24 hours prior to the polling day. Additionally, April 19 has been declared a paid holiday to facilitate maximum voter turnout and ensure widespread participation in the electoral process.
Turning attention to security arrangements, the CEO announced the deployment of 55 companies of security forces in the state. This significant reinforcement is intended to provide a robust security apparatus, ensuring the safety of voters and the integrity of the electoral process.
In adherence to the Model Code of Conduct, the CEO added that on directive of ECI show cause notices to candidates and government offices found involved in violation were issued.
Providing crucial statistics, the CEO outlined the electoral landscape, including the total number of electors as 892,694, and the total 2226 polling stations.The CEO also highlighted the highest voters polling station , ranging from the highest 1477 at 2-Pumao Village Polling station to the lowest at 52-Malogam PS with one voter only.
