ITANAGAR, Jul 15: In a decisive move to combat drug-related crimes, the Chimpu Police team has registered three cases and arrested four individuals, including two government officials, within last few days. The arrests were made at various locations including SRPL, near Punjabi Dhaba, near Hotel Todo, and the Forest Corporation Colony in the Chimpu area.
Acting on a tip-off, the Chimpu PS team, led by SDPO Itanagar DySP K Dirchi and OC PS Chimpu Inspector N Nishant, along with SI Tate Nabam, ASI Manish Kumar, Lady Constable N Sora, Constable Marge Lona, and CRPF personnel, conducted a search and raid operation on July 14 last. The operation took place at a suspect's house in the Forest Corporation Colony, Chimpu, and was conducted in the presence of Spl. Judicial Magistrate First Class (NDPS)  Oli Koyu and other independent witnesses.
During the raid, police discovered 20 plastic vials containing suspected heroin weighing 2 grams, hidden in a black waist bag in Thomas Pangkak's room. Additionally, they recovered 126 empty plastic vials, 39 used plastic syringes, a plastic soap case, and cash from the room. The seized items were properly weighed, packed, and sealed as exhibits on the spot. The entire operation was video-graphed and conducted in compliance with the provisions of the NDPS Act.
Following the raid, a case was registered under Case No. 51/2024, invoking sections 21(a)/27 of the NDPS Act. The suspect, identified as Thomas Pangkak, (24) a resident of Forest Corporation Colony, Chimpu, was arrested and subsequently sent to jail.
SP Itanagar,  Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, reaffirmed the department's zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related offenses. He emphasized the ongoing commitment of the Capital Police to eradicating drug trafficking in the Itanagar Capital Region. "We will continue to take strong action against those involved in drug peddling and ensure that the law takes its course," he stated.
