ITANAGAR, Oct 20: The Government Secondary School Balek is all set to celebrate its 75 year of existence as Platinum Jubilee from October 25 to 27. This was informed by Tobom Dai, the Organizing Secretary of the Platinum Jubilee Celebration Committee-GHSS Balek, during a press conference held at the press club on Friday.
Dai informed that, according to the records available with the state government, the school was established before the independence of India in 1946 as a Lower Primary school with 85 students (75 male and 15 female). The late Tosing Ering was the first local teacher appointed by the British at the school.
Many alumni of this school have served the state in various positions, ranging from politics to government and social activities. Among the students, the first batch of this school, including individuals like Gain Tapak Komut, the First General Secretary of the Adi Cultural & Literary Society; Jamat Matin Tangu, who served the state as an IAS officer and retired as Commissioner; Obang DaI, who also served as an IAS officer and retired as Divisional Commissioner, East Zone; Ogam Apum, who served and retired as Chief Engineer in the Department of Power; Padma Shri Omem Moyong Deori, who served as an MP in Rajya Sabha, President of APCC, and MLA for Lekang; Sutem Tasung, the First MLA (PPA) of Pasighat; and Tani Ering, who served as an IAS officer and retired as the Secretary of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu and MP Tapir Gao have consented to attend the inaugural event as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Minister UD –Kamlung Mossang will attend the event as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour on the closing day, which is on October 27th.
There will be various events ranging from literary to cultural during the three-day event, added Dai.
