ROING, Dec 22: An awareness programme on Child Rights and Safe and Unsafe Touch was conducted at Govt. Residential School, Jamupani and Govt. Secondary School, Hunli by the District Child Protection Unit, under the Department of Women and Child Development, Lower Dibang Valley. The objective was to raise awareness on child rights and functions of DCPU at the district level. Altogether 67 children and 9 teachers participated in the programmes.
The Protection Officer(DCPU) highlighted the roles and responsibilities of DCPU and emphasized the importance of legal adoption.
Embi Mega (Project Coordinator, CHL) shared information about the Child Helpline no 1098 and services provided by the helpline and children were advised to report in case they knew of any child in need of care and protection. The children were also informed about safe touch and unsafe touch.
The Counsellor(DCPU) talked about Child Marriage, impact of Child Marriage on health, education and experiencing gender based violence. The team also highlighted the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act 1986.
