Likabali, Sep 12: A coordination meeting was held at the Circuit House, Likabali, Lower Siang District, attended by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police from both Upper Subansiri District and  Lower Siang along with Maduripathar Truck Driver Association (MTDA),Tagin Students Union and AAPPTF.
The focus of the meeting was the memorandum submitted by the Maduripathar Truck Driver’s Association (MTDA), following the alleged kidnapping and murder  of a truck driver Sanjay Nath.
The President of MTDA, Shubash Sagas, highlighted the key demands of the association, which included justice for the deceased, financial compensation for his family, the safety of Assamese people, and a fast-track resolution of the submitted issues. The attendees discussed the impact of the tragedy and stressed the importance of maintaining peace between communities.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Upper Subansiri District assured that the police are actively pursuing the case, with efforts underway to complete a comprehensive chargesheet. Calls for the case to be transferred were addressed, with the SP stating that transferring it at this stage could cause delays.
During the meeting several members emphasized the need for greater driver safety along the Likabali-Daporijo route, with proposals for increased security measures. A consensus was reached to establish a police outpost and highway patrols to mitigate risks faced by truck drivers in the region.
The Deputy Commissioner Upper Subansiri  expressed his commitment to ensuring justice for late Sanjay Nath, with compensation to be provided under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Act. A Compensation Committee was formed, including key representatives from local transport associations, the victim’s family, and legal advisors. The committee will oversee the compensation process and ensure timely support to the family.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution to work together in achieving justice and improving the safety and welfare of truck drivers in the area as well as to call off the ongoing protest by truck  drivers.
