Naharlagun, Oct 1: As part of its continued efforts under Operation Dawn to curb drug trafficking, the Naharlagun Police apprehended an interstate drug peddler and seized contraband heroin in a series of coordinated raids on September 30.
The operation, led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, involved a team including Sub-Inspector Vivek Linggi and Constables Sanu Raj T, K Samyor, and L/Ct. B Chetry was conducted under the direct supervision of SP Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team raided a location in Dokum Colony, Naharlagun, where they detained two youths suspected to be under the influence of drugs. Upon interrogation, the detainees, both identified as drug addicts, revealed that their supplier was Binod Sharma, a 28-year-old resident of Harmoti, Assam.
With this information, the police coordinated with Assam Police and conducted a follow-up raid in Harmoti. The operation culminated in the arrest of the main supplier, Binod Sharma, and the seizure of 12.6 grams of heroin, along with his car.
The two youths have since been sent to a rehabilitation center for treatment. Meanwhile, a criminal case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station against Binod Sharma, marking a significant victory in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region, stated a release issued by the Police.
