ITANAGAR,  Dec 2: The Foundation Day of Assam was celebrated with enthusiasm at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on Saturday. Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.) and the First Lady Anagha Parnaik participated in the celebration with the people of Assam, who are serving or residing in the State and children from different schools of Itanagar.
Greeting the people of Assam on their foundation day, Parnaik expressed hope that with continued goodwill and cultural similarities amongst the people of both States, the minor discord related to boundary issues will be resolved soon.
Recalling the rich and vibrant cultural heritage of Assam, the Governor said that Assam is the Mother State of North East. He also remembered the great Assamese Warrior, Lachit Borphukan and cultural exponent and Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion.
Parnaik highlighted the achievements and accomplishments of the State of Assam and said that it inspires others States of North East and the nation. He mentioned the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame for the 42.9 lakh handwritten notes on Lachit Borphukan and participation of more than 11000 dancers and drummers performing 'Bihu' dance and playing 'dhol' in a single venue.
The Governor paid tributes to the founding father Swargadeo Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha and also praised the present leadership who is taking the State of Assam to new heights of development and creating avenues and opportunities for progress.
A colourful cultural programme, including ‘Diha Naam’ kirtan and multicultural group dance, depicting lively culture of Assam was presented on the occasion. Artists from various communities including Boro, Karbi, Mising, Sonowalkachari, Lalung, Garo, Dimacha and Assamese performed the items. Doli Gogoi, presented the famed Satriya dance.
Adding colours to the Axom Diwas, as a token of appreciation, the Assamese communities brought homemade traditional special dishes for the Governor, First lady of the State and other guests.
