ITANAGAR, Sep 13: The Hathkargha Mela State Handloom Expo gained significant success, generating impressive business transactions totalling over ` 20 lakh over its 14-day duration. The event, which provided a vital platform for local artisans to showcase their crafts, was sponsored by the Development Commissioner of the Ministry of Textile, Government of India.
According to Dorjee Phuntso, Director of Textiles & Handicraft, the expo not only highlighted the talents of local artisans but also created substantial economic opportunities for them. The event was marked by considerable sales, with some stalls achieving revenues of up to ` 4 lakh. This financial success underscores the growing interest and market potential for handcrafted textiles and products from the region. He also added that artisans from other states also participated in the 14-day expo.
Looking ahead, Phuntso announced that a similar event is planned for November next in Dree Ground Naharlagun aiming to further promote and support local artisans. This continuation of the Hathkargha Mela demonstrates a commitment to fostering regional craftsmanship and providing artisans with valuable exposure.
In addition to these local events, artisans from Arunachal Pradesh are scheduled to participate in the Bhartiya Kala Mahotsav in Hyderabad, which will take place from September 28 to October 6. The department will cover all expenses for this participation, ensuring that the artisans have the opportunity to present their rich, indigenous products on a prominent national platform. This initiative is part of a broader effort to highlight and celebrate the diverse cultural heritage and artisanal skills of the region, added Phuntso.
