Itanagar, Oct 22: The Arunachal Senior Taekwondo Team delivered an outstanding performance at the 40th National Senior Kyorugi & 13th National Poomsae Taekwondo Championship 2024, held from October 17 to 19 at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Puducherry. Organized by the Puducherry Taekwondo Sports Association under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India and sponsored by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, the championship brought together the nation’s best athletes to compete at a high level.
Arunachal Pradesh’s athletes shone in various categories, winning a total of 2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals. In the Senior Female Group Poomsae under 30 age category, Ms. Achum Sangha, Ms. Radha Bangsia, and Ms. Lumter Uli won the gold medal. Similarly, in the Senior Male Group Poomsae under 40 age category, Mr. Gangfung Gangsa, Ms. Mari Karbak, and Mr. Likha Govind claimed another gold for the team. Mr. Gangfung Gangsa also secured a silver medal in the Senior Male Individual Poomsae under 40 age category, adding to his gold from the group competition. Ms. Khinsan Wangsu earned a bronze medal in the Senior Female Individual Poomsae under 30 category, while Mr. Margam Karbak won bronze in the Senior Male Individual Poomsae under 60 category. In the Senior Mixed Pair Poomsae under 30 category, Ms. Rikpy Nyodu and Mr. Miching Taja claimed another bronze medal, along with Mr. Akash Kumar Ram, Mr. Miching Taja, and Mr. Kame Bayang, who also won bronze in the same category. Adding to the team’s success, Ms. Chello Marry has been qualified for the National Games 2025 as a wild card entry and was awarded as the Best Female Fighter of the tournament. Mr. Akash Kumar Ram has also secured his qualification for the National Games 2025 by finishing in the top 10.
General Secretary of the Arunachal Taekwondo Association, Likha Robin, expressed his joy at the team’s success, stating, “This is a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh. Our athletes have shown their true potential at the national stage, and their achievements are the result of hard work, dedication, and passion. We hope this inspires more athletes from the state to take up Taekwondo and excel in it.” Kipa Kaha, President of the Arunachal Taekwondo Association, also praised the athletes, saying, “The entire team has done exceptionally well, bringing home multiple medals and making the state proud. This success will undoubtedly strengthen Taekwondo’s popularity in Arunachal Pradesh, and we will continue to support our athletes in every way possible.” With the support of their coaches, Mr. Kayang Darang (Kyorugi Coach), Mr. Ranjit Biswakarma (Poomsae Coach), and manager Ms. Jina Yangfo, the team has once again put Arunachal Pradesh on the national map in the field of Taekwondo.
