ITANAGAR, Sep 29: The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Vijay Verma on Friday flagged off a special women PCR for the residents of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) at the SP office, Ganga here.
The women PCR will consist of an all-women staff, except for the driver. However, the department plans to soon appoint women drivers for the same. The PCR will work primarily in the areas of crime as women's first response.
The DIGP said that the department will soon increase the number of women PCR, which will address women-related cases within the capital region. He said that women's PCR is an extension of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112.
“We are also monitoring how promptly the PCR team is working along with ERSS, upon receiving calls for any support from the public. The launch of women PCR will certainly help in ensuring assistance for the female community,” he said.
The PCR will be placed in the market area at Ziro Point and other places where there is more gathering of women. The brain behind the Women PCR is Capital SP, Rohit Rajbir Singh.
Verma also informed that the strength of the police force in any state or country is never sufficient. The same situation is with the police force in Arunachal Pradesh. However, whenever needed, the department is always provided extra force from other states.
“Now the major issue is not with the strength of the police force in the state but for the accommodation of the extra force called from outside the state. Therefore, we have placed our concern to police headquarters,” he said when questioned on the smaller numbers of police staff in the state.
