ITANAGAR, Jul 1: Incessant rain has caused widespread devastation across various parts of the state, with many roads, bridges washed away and villages submerged in floods.
According to today’s State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reports, at least four villages in Namsai District—Mengkengmiri, Dirakmiri, Champa, and Tengapani—are completely submerged. Additionally, five villages in Lohit, 16 in Changlang, 11 in ICR, and four in West Kameng have also been severely affected.
Moreover, reports of road damages were also reported from parts of the districts like West Kameng, Kra Dadi, East Siang, West Siang,Pakke Kessang, Leparada, Papumpare, Lower Dibang Valley,East Kameng,  Dibang Valley and in ICR region .
Despite the extensive damage, no casualties have been reported as of this evening. Rescue operations are underway, led by Assam Rifles personnel in Namsai and district administration teams in various affected districts.
Flood-like situations and damages have been reported from at least 15 districts. The Kurung Bridge, over Kurung river connecting Koloriang with the rest of the state, has been washed away. Local MLA and Advisor to the Minister of PHED, Pani Taram, rushed to the site for a ground inspection and assured that efforts would be made to reconnect Koloriang as soon as possible.
As per reports, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Assam Rifles have rescued at least 819 people from vulnerable locations in Changlang, Namsai, and West Kameng today. Meanwhile, due to the severe weather conditions and frequent landslides posing threats to life and properties also causing roadblocks, the Deputy Commissioner-Itanagar Capital Region, Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta who is also the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, has issued an order to close all schools in the capital complex from July 2 to July 6.
