Itanagar, Aug 16: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) met the Chairperson Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Ratan Anya and her team to address the alarming increase in crimes against children in the state. They presented a representation to the Commission highlighting the growing concerns over bullying in schools and the sexual exploitation and trafficking of minors.
In the context of bullying in schools, the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society has called for proper regulation and adherence to guidelines by all residential and private schools, with accountability fixed in case of violations.
It called for conducting thorough investigations into the reported bullying incidents and appropriate action against the perpetrators. Apart from awareness programmes and workshops for teachers and students, helpline to report bullying and seek support confidentially was also stressed upon.
Expressing deep concern over the alarming increase in crimes against children in the state, in the wake of recent reports of sexual exploitation and trafficking of minors, the APWWS called for Fast - tracking all such cases under the monitoring of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to ensure justice and protection for the victims.
It also stressed on mandatory identity verification in hotels, spas etc. To further safeguard children from exploitation, it is imperative that strict identity verification processes be mandated for all employees in hotels, restaurants, resorts , pubs, parlour and spa. Ensuring that minors are not employed in such establishments is crucial in preventing their involvement in inappropriate and illegal activities, the APWWS said.
