Assam-Arunachal border delineation exercise concludes in Lower Siang
ITANAGAR, Oct 6: The Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Society (APWWS) has met the Director General of Police regarding the Seppa Sex Racket case and the overall safety of women and minor school-going girls in the state.
The women's body pointed out grave discrepancies in the investigation conducted by the East Kameng Police, involving the luring of minor girls into a sex racket. An FIR was lodged on 29th August, and subsequent arrests resulted in the suspects being released due to inconsistencies in the investigation process, which was reflected in the bail order of the alleged accused by the Special Judge POCSO.
The APWWS said that the investigation was conducted by a male police officer under probation whereas the case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, mandates that a Women Police Officer not below the rank of SI should carry out the investigation.
Stating that there is no women police officer in the Women Police Station in Seppa, East Kameng, the APWWS said such a situation reflects the commitment of the State Government towards the justice delivery system on the ground.
The APWWS further demanded thorough reinvestigation by a women police officer under the supervision of a senior officer; protection for the minor victims; training and Sensitization on POCSO Act for the entire police department among others.
