ITANAGAR, Sep 30: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society met the parents of the 6-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a faculty of the Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh.
The alleged accused, identified as Dr Philip Modi, associate professor in the Department of Commerce, RGU, was arrested a day after the incident, a senior police officer said Friday.
The APWWS said it's deeply concerned about the increasing number of sexual assault cases involving children in the state. It is disheartening to learn that individuals in positions of power are increasingly implicated in such heinous acts, the women's body said.
"We have met with the survivor's parents on Thursday last. Children and their families go through unimaginable psychological trauma that can last a lifetime. We appreciate the prompt action taken by the police in arresting the accused and urge them to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure there are no lapses," said President APWWS, Kani Nada Maling in a statement on Saturday.
The APWWS also requested the state government to take prompt action in establishing the new Arunachal Pradesh Commission for the Protection of Child Rights.
