ITANAGAR, Nov 9: The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has written to the Chairperson, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) to recommend the Arunachal Pradesh Monogamy-Election Eligibility Bill, 2023 to the state government.
The APWWS said polygamous practices not only lead to the exploitation of women but also contribute significantly to the degradation of gender equality, thereby hindering the overall progress of our society. The society has drafted a comprehensive letter to the concerned legislatures and details reports from day one on the "Arunachal Pradesh Monogamy-Election Eligibility Bill, 2023," aimed at addressing and regulating this matter effectively.
The bill, meticulously crafted with extensive research and expert opinions, aims to promote the principle of monogamy as a fundamental value in our society. It seeks to disqualify individuals practicing polygamy from contesting elections, thereby ensuring that our elected representatives are aligned with the ethical standards upheld by our society. By endorsing this bill, we believe that we can take a significant step towards fostering gender equality, protecting the rights of women, and upholding the principles of social justice, the APWWS said.
