ITANAGAR, Jul 3: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for staging a protest and burning an effigy of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in front of the Congress head office in Itanagar on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, APCC State Vice President Toko Mina stated that members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) protested outside the Congress office and set fire to an effigy of the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi. Mina expressed surprise at the protest occurring in front of another political party's office, noting that such an event was unprecedented. She called on the authorities to invoke the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (APUAPA) against the BJP members for inciting violence in society.
Interestingly, no security was provided to the office premises, and no communication was made to any members about the protest. During the burning of effigy, two of our Congress leaders were also injured, she said.
Additionally, Mina questioned the Capital District Administration and the Superintendent of Police for granting permission to the BJYM for the protest. She expressed dissatisfaction with the language used in the "Permission Order" issued by the District Administration, noting that it stated permission was granted due to a "derogatory remark by Rahul Gandhi." Mina criticised the use of politically charged language by the District Commissioner, an IAS officer, and urged higher authorities to take action against officers showing political bias.
