PASIGHAT, Aug 17: Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang released the 2nd Adi book “Solung A:bang” series authored by Arak Megu on Thursday. The book has been co-published by Ayi Ke Ekum Society which is taking the initiative to run a day care centre for elders based in Pasighat. The profit earned from selling the book will go to this society for the cause it is pursuing. Notably, Arak has authored and co-authored dozens of books and contributed to many magazines and journals.
Arak Megu from Kelek Mirbuk village, Pasighat is retired Assistant Director of Research, Philology, who has contributed many books to his credit and was conferred the prestigious “Bhasa Samman Award” by Sahitya Akademi in the year 2015 for his outstanding contributions to research for Adi Language and Culture.
This is second book in the Solung Aːbang series after LimirLibom Aːbang by the Author. In this book, Megu has compiled the mythological rhapsodies from different expert Ponung-Miris and translated them into English and general Adi language. Solung is observed for three consecutive nights, in the first night the Miri narrates the mythology behind the birth of Mithun and the origin of other animals. Binnyat Aːbang is sung in the second night where the Ponung Miri narrates the origin of agriculture, cultivation of foodgrains and how it was handed over to the Tani. In the third night, the Aːbang related to humans’ struggle for existence is beautifully explained in rhapsody. The Binnyat Aːbang is sung on the second night of the Solung festival and the author has tried his best to translate the Aːbang maxim in a plain and lucid language for the readers who do not understand Aːbang language.
