ITANAGAR, May 18: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has expressed deep concern and outrage over the illegal appointment of 25 individuals to various positions within the Public Health Engineering & Water Supply (PHED & WS) department, under the Chief Engineer, Eastern Zone - Miao Division.
“This egregious violation of lawful recruitment procedures not only undermines the integrity of our public institutions but also denies deserving candidates fair employment opportunities,” ACSIPR Secretary Giah Tanam said during a press conference held at the Press Club on Saturday.
Despite the Secretary of PHED & WS taking prompt action to cancel 20 of these illegal appointments, media reports indicate a total of 25 such appointments were made. ACS demands the immediate cancellation of all 25 illegal appointments to uphold justice and fairness, he added.
Further, Convenor ACS Kamin Yangfo stated that the ACS is also calling for a comprehensive investigation into the matter. In light of the recent APPSC cash-for-job scam, it is disheartening to see authorities continuing corrupt practices. ACS has appealed to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation under the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) and to arrest all individuals involved in this job scam.
"The presence of thousands of (approximately 7000) contingency and casual workers in the PHED & WS department, who have dedicated many years of service on meager salaries, makes this incident particularly distressing," said an ACS spokesperson. These workers have been toiling under challenging conditions for far too long. Any job vacancies should be either advertised openly or filled by absorbing these long-serving workers, he added.
"We urge the government and relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to restore public confidence and to demonstrate that corruption will not be tolerated in Arunachal Pradesh," the ACS spokesperson added. "Our commitment is to ensure that the principles of justice and fairness prevail in our state."
The Arunachal Civil Society remains steadfast in its mission to fight against corruption and to protect the rights of deserving individuals within the public sector, said Yangfo.
