SEPPA, Aug 22: In an unfortunate incident a 21-year-old man from Lakhimpur District, Assam, has died while in police custody at Seppa Police Station on Thursday morning. The incident occurred this morning at approximately 9:40 a.m.
The deceased, who was arrested in connection with a Scooty theft case, had been in police remand following his apprehension on August 21 last. The theft incident, which took place near the State Bank of India (SBI) in Seppa on August 19 last, was registered under Seppa Police Station Case No. 64/2024, filed under Section 303(2) of the BNS Act, informed Superintendent of Police East Kameng, Kamdam Sikom.
He also added that, a judicial inquiry is currently in progress to determine the exact circumstances leading to the young man’s death. The authorities have assured that all procedures are being meticulously followed as per NHRC guidelines to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.
