ITANAGAR, Feb 23: Zilla Parishad Member, (ZPM) Lapnam Village, Khonsa, Lengang Lowang was killed in a fatal road accident after the SUV( Scorpio) he was driving skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge near six mile, in between Itanagar-Naharlagun NH-415 in the wee hours of Friday morning.
The wreckage of the car was first spotted by commuters this morning and few climbed down the slope and found the body lying few meters away from the vehicle and alerted the police. A police team rushed to the spot and with the help of civilians retrieved the body and brought it to the nearest hospital for conducting autopsy.
When contacted Officer In charge, PS, Itanagar, T Bage informed that the accident took place around 3:00 am early this morning and the body was handed over to relatives after conducting all legal formalities in the evening.
Though the cause of the accident has not been ascertained yet but police suspect that the driver might have lost control over the car or mechanical defects may have led to the mishap. "Investigation is underway to establish the cause of the accident", Bage later informed.
Lowang who was Chief of Lapnan village was known for his mild, gentle and true custodian of Nocte Indigenous culture apart from his Panchayat duties which he was holding. His untimely demise has shocked Nocte Community in particular and Tirap District as a whole.
In their condolences, Chief of Borduria, Wanglin Lowangdong, Adviser to CM, Wangki Lowang, Agriculture minister etc, MLA Khonsa West Tirong Aboh, 55-Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin, DC Tirap PN Thungon, ZPC Sontung Bangsia and all Block ZPMs of Tirap District stated that the district has lost a young and energetic leader which is an irreparable loss.
