ITANAGAR, Mar 2: Tanii Development Forum (TDF) in a release has appreciated the President of India Ram Nath Kovind for rescinding an earlier order of the central government which postponed the delimitation exercise in the Northeast.
TDF as a voluntary NGO has been pursuing the delimitation of the 17th Ziro-Hapoli (ST) Assembly Constituency since 2018 and had submitted memorandums on October 2018 and January 2019 highlighting the need for delimitation of the AC which includes the two major towns of Hapoli and Ziro along with 11 villages, 14 Zila Parishad Members (ZPMs) and a total population of 43, 777 as per 2011 Census. The organization stated that in 2018, the total population of the above area was close to 70000, but it has only one Assembly Constituency. It said that due to this disproportionate representation in the State Assembly, a large segment of the population of the constituency has remained politically, socially and economically marginalized and is facing great difficulty in getting developmental funds, social security and justice.
“We are thankful to the state government, the Governor and the President of India for the kind response to our genuine representation,” TDF release said.
