ITANAGAR, Mar 26:The Wancho Student Union (WSU) on Monday served an ultimatum of 20 days to the state government demanding action against the EE, PWD Kanubari Division under Longding District while alleging him of misappropriating crores of development funds under SADA, DoTCL, DDM, SDEG etc and threatened to launch a democratic stir if their demand is not addressed within the timeframe.
Addressing reporters at press club today, its president, Pongngoi Joham while divulging that it had submitted various memorandums to Commissioner, PWD seeking action against the official however expressed disappointment that no action has been initiated so far despite the matter being brought up months back.
Armed with RTI documents, Joham accused the EE of misusing his office since his posting in 2015 and alleged him of releasing payments illegally to contractors without executing any visible work on the ground.
He also alleged that the official through illegal means has misused funds amounting to around 99 lakhs allocated in the financial year 2015 -16 for the maintenance and repair works of Circuit House, Jorhat which falls under Kanubari PWD jurisdiction while claiming that the facility is still lying in dilapidated condition as earlier.
He raised apprehension that if no action was initiated against the official then the 94.4 crores sanctioned this financial year 2017-18 for the maintenance of the same circuit house might also be siphoned off.
Informing about the series of misconduct done by the EE, he alleged that there is continuous overlapping with duplicity in the maintenance work of various key roads including infrastructure development work within Kanubari executed under his supervision.
He claimed that several irregularities were also noticed by them in RTI documents wherein payments of various tender works were released in the name of unconcerned persons such as driver and his staffers by submitting fictitious bills supported with false work completion certificates.
Lambasting the government for failing to evolve a regulatory mechanism to monitor flow of funds worth crores in Kanubari area, Finance secretary, Sango Wangjen has alleged the EE for seriously violating the district entrepreneur act by allowing unfamiliar contractors from outside the state to participate in tender works without giving chance to genuine local contractors as per the guidelines.
“We will not allow public money to go unaccounted like this nor will stand as mere spectators to such serious case of corruption and malpractices. We are not going to leave this issue and continue to pursue this until the government punishes those misappropriating it,” Wangjen affirmed.
He further added “mere transferring or suspension would not suffice and civil and criminal action should be initiated against the erring official.”
