ITANAGAR, Mar 15:Along with the rest of the world, the state also observed the World Consumer Rights Day across several districts.

At Aalo, the day was observed jointly by Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs in collaboration with APWWS Aalo Unit and District Sports Association at General Ground today.

 A Mini Marathon Race themed Run for Consumer Rights from Aalo General Ground to Kabu and back was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner, West Siang. Around hundred enthusiastic boys and girls took part in the race.

ADC Aalo, Sode Potom exhorted the consumers to know their rights and privileges as enshrined in consumer protection Act. DIPRO, Gijum Tali stressed on checking the unregulated abrupt price rise in traditional attires, artifacts and ornaments to make it affordable to poorer section of society.

Secretary APWWS, Hoksum Ori, Jomba Kamgo Lobom, ACLM also spoke on the occasion.

  Lower Subansiri district joined in celebration at Govt. Middle School, Dutta today on the theme “Making digital marketplaces fairer”.

Asst. Controller, LM&CA,Hage H Atung while highlighting the importance of the day suggested GBs to assist the department in rural areas to check on unfair selling of goods. He also highlighted the rights of the consumers with reference to Consumer Protection Act 1986

Inspector LM&CA Ziro, Kesang Tashi demonstrated on how few shopkeepers are duping consumers with beam scale. Eighty four Gaon Burahs and Buris of Ziro-I participated in the programme.

The World Consumer Rights Day was observed at Kankong village near Shantipur check gate in Lower Dibang Valley district today in a befitting manner.  The villagers, PRI members, Gaon Burahs, women and traders of the area were given information on laws relating to consumer protection, Legal Metrology Act 2009 regarding weights and measures, various rights of consumers and information on who, when, where and how to approach the district forum in case of complaints.

ACLM, CS Singpho explained about the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011 as regards to mandatory declaration of net content, MRP, name and address of manufacturer, date and year of packing etc. World Consumer Rights Day was observed in Tezu in a small but impressive programme organised by the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs under the Chairmanship of  Kajal Karmakar SDO Tezu at BRC Hall, here, today.

 Karmakar expressed the need of more awareness programmes in village level where people are innocent and easily fall prey to spurious goods, overpricing, counterfeiting etc.

 Minte Siga, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs East Zone, Tezu told the people gathered in the house that consumer right is equal to constitutional rights. But very often people tend to neglect this right which is why they are cheated by unfair trade practices. In order to educate oneself about this right it is important to attend awareness programmes such as this one. It will help one to be more alert and vigil about unfair trade practices. Until and unless you are aware of your right, you may be cheated, he said.

Standard weights and measures etc were demonstrated. The Legal Metrology & CA Department Tezu informed that District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum are mandated to provide simple, speedy and inexpensive redressal of consumer grievances.

They elaborated on right to safety, right to be informed, right to choose, right to be heard, right to seek redressal, right to consumer education.Pamplets and leaflets were also distributed to the participants.
