ITANAGAR, Aug 8:In order to acquaint the business community with the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the District Administration and Department of Tax and Excise conducted a one-day workshop at Banquet Hall here today.
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax, which was introduced in India on 1 July 2017 and was applicable throughout India, which replaced multiple cascading taxes levied by the central and state governments.
Assistant Commissioner Tax and Excise, Tapas Dutta in his detail powerpoint presentation highlighted all aspects of the GST and also explained how it will help the common people of the state.
Further explaining the logic behind having one consolidated indirect tax to subsume multiple currently existing indirect taxes, he said that GST will benefit the Indian economy in a number of ways. ‘It will help the country’s businesses gain a level playing field, put us on par with foreign nations who have a more structured tax system, translate into gains for the end consumer
who will not have to pay cascading taxes anymore and there will now be a single tax on goods and services,’ Dutta said.
