YINGKIONG, Oct 5: First ever Women Volleyball Tournament of Upper Siang district started on October 1 at the general ground, Yingkiong. The tournament is being organized by the Sikiing Kojee Charitable Society.
Speaking at the opening ceremony as chief guest Alo Libang, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, etc said that Sikiing Kojee Charitable Society has set a rare example by organizing such a women’s volleyball tournament, without any government fund or aid.
Duly Kamduk, Deputy Commissioner, Upper Siang District, also appreciated the society for organizing the women tournament which was never looked into by others including the government department.
Earlier, Dr. Mity Jopir, the General Secretary of the Sikiing Kojee Charitable Society in her speech informed that there were 15 women teams from different age groups participating in the tournament. She apprised that the tournament was conducted free of any joining fees. She also informed that the main motive for conducting the women tournament was to help women and girls to come out of their shells and to make them confident to face today’s challenging world.
The tournament will last till October 7. In the inaugural match, Upper Siang Women-IX team defeated Neli Nengo-A team.
