PASIGHAT, Oct 26: The Women Against Social Evils (WASE) of East Siang District who had earlier appealed for alcohol sale ban in the 3 days Tani Festival being organized by Abo Tani Clan Organization (ATCO) from October 25-27 today seized several bottles of alcohol from stalls at the festival ground and destroyed it.
Informing about the violation of terms & conditions by festival organizers, WASE President, Omem Ering and General Secretary, Joya Tasung Moyong today said that, many stalls in the festival ground were found selling alcohol. “This is a serious violation and breach of law which may also assume as contempt of court, as Supreme Court has standing order for ban on alcohol sale in religious premises. Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang (CDPYK), Pasighat is religious ground/premises of Donyi Poloism and giving permission for selling of liquor/apong in the premises by the district administration or from higher authorities violates the Court order”, they added.
Meanwhile, CDPYK President, Ajem Tayeng while condemning the same said “We had permitted the Tani festival on the conditions that they should not sell or allow alcohol in the premises. They have violated it and we can’t tolerate such breach of law”, added Tayeng. CDPYK Women Wing President, Yabor Taggu appealed the organizers and stall managers to respect the religious sentiments and abide by the agreed rules.
The WASE team which has earned a name of ‘Tiger Moms of Arunachal Pradesh’ and which also featured in the Nari Shakti documentation of DD News under New India initiative have been doing yeomen service even sacrificing their lives, putting themselves under threat from drug and other anti social elements.
