Yingkiong, Feb 14: As a part of skill development a one-day free all women training programme on vermicompost was organized by the Sikiing Koje Charitable Society Yingkiong in collaboration with ArSLM, Yingkiong for economic empowerment and self -employment at vermicompost centre of Totok Libang at Simong village.
Training was imparted by progressive farmer Totok Libang who himself is a well-recognized organic farmer from Simong village. He explained on how he had begun the vermicomposting with the support of Department of Agriculture and Horticulture five years ago and is now earning good income from it by selling per kg at Rs.30 , in addition he is also imparting training to fellow farmers across the district on vermi composting and importance of organic cultivation.
Informing the participants about prospects of vermi composting culture, he explained about importance of vermicompost in soil fertility and nutrients and illustrated step by step procedure to cultivate vermicompost at home. Totok is also the first to practice integrated rice-fish poultry farming system, green tea processing etc in Upper Siang. He was awarded Gold Medal by the state government in the year 2020 and numerous other awards in recognition of his works.
Altogether 22 women from Yingkiong participated including chairperson and members of Sikiing Charitable Society. DIPRO
