Aalo, Dec 24: An executive order banning all kinds of fishing activities in open rivers and streams of West Siang District during breeding season to control the dwindling aquatic population has been issued by the district administration.
The order has been necessitated to stop large-scale fishing activities hiring professional fishermen from outside the state causing irreparable aquatic ecological imbalance. It comes as a follow-up to the general meeting with public leaders, NGOs, GBs, Ex. PRIs of Aalo, Kamba and Darak conducted under the supervision of District Administration at Gumin Kiin. The meeting unanimously decided to make a blanket ban on all kinds of fishing activities using gill netting, fishing nets, explosives, chemical, arrow shooting and electrocution etc. during breeding season for a period of three years from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2023.
Police, administrative officers and HGBs have been asked to keep a close vigil on violators of the order and take appropriate action as per the Arunachal Pradesh Fisheries Act 2006. DIPRO
