ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh has been adjudged the second in the entire country in the Swachhata Darpan-Open Defecation Free(ODF) Sustainability 2019 Contest which was introduced by the Ministry of Jal Shakti to assess the activities carried out by districts regarding ODF Sustainability.
In recognition of the excellent work carried out as team leader in the district, Deputy Commissioner of West Kameng District Dr.Sonal Swaroop Riba , was felicitated by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who is the Ambassador of Pani Foundation in Hotel Pride Plaza, Delhi in presence of Parmeswaran Iyer, Secretary, DDWS, Jal Shakti Ministry and hosts of other senior officers. The DC West Kameng was accompanied by Executive Engineer PHED and Water Supply Niapung Konia.
During the interaction, Aamir Khan congratulated the awardees and lauded their role as leaders on the ground to bring about behavioural change in people and for making Open Defecation Free India a reality. He urged everyone to work tirelessly and keep on imparting awareness to the masses in order to sustain the achievements made.
Dr. Sonal lauded the exemplary works done by PHED Department in the West Kameng district and said that the achievement wouldn’t be possible without the tireless efforts made by Executive Engineer PHED Bomdila, Niapung Konia,and his officials. She said that the team has done exceptionally well in reaching out to the people in every village in rough terrain and harsh weather and for doing extensive Information Education and Communication campaign which brought positive impact in the district.
