BOMDILA, Apr 11:A cleanliness drive cum awareness programme on Tourism was conducted for the public of Sangti Village, West Kameng District at Sangti Valley today by the Department Of Tourism.
Assistant Director Bengia Manna Sonam gave a brief summary of the programme. There was active participation of all the residents and PRI members of the village. Resource persons Raj Basu from Association for Conservation & Tourism, a leading NGO in the North East spoke of sustainable tourism, role of community on cleanliness and reason for disappearance of the Black Necked Crane, a migratory bird, in Sangti Valley and Merwyn from the Batti Project highlighted on the importance of keeping the village clean and also spoke about Solid Waste Management.
School children from Assam Valley School, Tezpur who were there for Summer Camp at Sangti Valley were also involved in cleanliness drive. Sangti River and Gompa were the two Tourist spots chosen for the cleanliness drive. There was also a 15 feet installation of a black necked crane dummy made of the waste collected, bamboos and gunny sacks.
The programme was a success with the cooperation from the villagers, Assam Valley School Children, the resource persons and Department of Tourism, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh.
