PASIGHAT, Oct 13:

Seram village in Namsing Circle under Mebo Sub-Division here in East Siang district passed an order banning quarrying, tree felling and use of dynamite and inverter (electrocution)  as fishing method to protect the village from further soil erosion.

Informing about the decision, Amit Modi, Village Secretary said that, one of major reasons for massive erosion during flood time is due to excessive lifting of sand gravels from the river bank, felling down of trees and use of dynamite and inverter fishing. Seram village, which is one of the worst affected in the recent Siang flood is now determined to stop man-made causes of erosion. While appealing locals to heed to the decision, Modi has also appealed the Divisional Forest Officer, D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary to stop illegal means of fishing in the Siang river around the river island.

Meanwhile, Dy. Commissioner, Pasighat, Tamiyo Tatak and DFO Wildlife, Tasang Taga on being briefed about the appeal appreciated the initiative of the Seram Village and assured  to issue an executive ban order through Addl. Dy. Commissioner, Mebo Sub-Division.
