ITANAGAR, Jan 8: A peaceful rally was organized today from Akashdeep to Tennis Court demanding action against Bameng MLA, the alleged rape accused by the family members of the victim.
Speaking to the media, the victim's husband Tungri Effa appealed Chief Minister Pema Khandu to disqualify Goruk Pordung as an MLA and hand over the case to the CBI for a fair probe. According to Effa, Pordung who represents Bameng AC in East Kameng district had allegedly committed the crime at a hotel in the state capital on October 12 last and an FIR had also been registered against the MLA at the Women's Police Station, Itanagar.
“I will fight until justice is delivered and the investigating agency should expedite the process of investigation,” Effa said while questioning why no action had been taken against the MLA even after an FIR had been filed. “The next hearing of the case in the Supreme Court   will be held on Thursday and we are confident that SC will deliver justice to the victim's family, a family member told. Today it is her and   tomorrow it can happen to your daughter,” a friend of the victim said, adding that the culprits should be punished severely even if he is an MLA or a Minister.
Meanwhile, the family members of the victim also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene  and urged him to direct the investigating agency to deal with the matter in an independent and impartial manner. They further alleged that they have lost faith in the current investigation being conducted by the state police. The protesters also denied that there was any political motive behind the rally which was attended by various clan-based organizations to show solidarity with the victim's family.
