ITANAGAR, Nov 2: Veteran female shuttlers of the state, Pema Ladon and Taw Yania have won the women’s doubles crown in the recently concluded 6th Sudama Veteran Badminton Tournament held at the Multipurpose Sports complex in Chandigarh, Punjab.

In the high voltage match that enthralled all present, Ladon and Yania defeated the pair of Suchitra Mishra (Delhi) and Sunita Sharma (Haryana) in straight sets of 21-19 and 21-18.

Representing Arunachal Pradesh in the women’s (40+) doubles category Ladon and Yania had earlier defeated the pair from Maharashtra to cement their place in the finals.

The other players to represent Arunachal in the tournament were, Aju Khonjuju, Hemin Baghe, Jarsa Gamlin, Lina Kakki, Laa Rebe and Dilip Gurung.

The coveted tournament which was held from October 26 to 29 last was inaugurated by Advisor to the Local Government Department, Punjab, Dr Amar Singh while the finals of the tourney was graced by former Indonesian badminton player Hariyanto Arbi as the chief guest.

Meanwhile, Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) president Techi Rotu, joint Secretary Penya Bagra and Sports Authority of Arunachal chairman Bamang Tago have congratulated Ladon and Yania for their feat.
