Daporijo, Oct 13 : Residents of Dasi Village and Kare Village under Chetam Circle, Upper Subansiri District, have imposed traditional restrictions and lockdown for ten days in observance of indigenous ritual, to ward off reported spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) affecting domestic animals in the region.
Accordingly, restrictions have been imposed on public movement and transportation through the designated areas for the prescribed period.
The POTOR-UYI ritual carries broader traditional significance within the Tagin community. Beyond seeking protection against animal diseases, it is performed to invoke collective well-being, protection against perceived evil threats, agricultural prosperity, a good harvest, and safe movement within the community's customary jurisdiction.
