ITANAGAR, May 4: Expressing concern over absence of required medical professionals and modern equipment in District Hospital, Koloriang, All Kurung Kumey District Students Union has urged the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Jomde Kena to immediately post required staff within stipulated time frame.
Speaking to media persons at press club today, President AKKDSU, Bengia Anthony informed that after more than five years of its establishment, the hospital has no required manpower as well as lacks modern equipment. ‘People are compelled to come down to Itanagar for better medical aid due to absence of medical specialist and equipment. It is also very depressing to say that many people have lost their lives en route to Itanagar during emergency cases,’ he rued.
Anthony, further divulged that there are only four doctors and one medical officers, and no specialist as well as technician to run the laboratory.
‘Kurung Kumey is one of the remotest district and people here are not sound in terms of financial condition so every time and everyone cannot afford to travel outside the district for medical aid,’ he stated while appealing for immediately posting of required medical staff.
AKKDSU also expressed resentment towards local representatives, Minister for PHED & IPR, Bamang Felix and Parliamentary Secretary for Home, Pani Taram for not giving due importance to health sector of the district, said the union’s chief.
Further, he appealed the Minister for Health & Family Welfare to visit Koloriang to get full picture of the health sector of the district.
‘We have submitted number of representations to concern District Medical Officer, Deputy Commissioner even discussed the issue with the local representatives but till date no rightful action has been taken yet. There are few equipment in the district hospital but interestingly there is no manpower to handle it and without technical person to operate the equipment, How would the common man get benefit from it,’ questioned the AKKDSU .
