ITANAGAR, Dec 2: All Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Corruption Students Union (AAPACSU) and All Yobin Students Union  (AYSU)  called off its indefinite hunger strike after meeting Home Minister Bamang Felix. The hunger strike began on November 27 last demanding the deletion of names of Non-APST from Panchayati Raj electoral roll in Vijoynagar under Changlang district.
President AAPACSU, Tana Ganesh said ‘we are not fully satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. However union is giving a timeframe to the state government to take necessary action on our demands. The issue will not be compromised we will keep our eyes on the issue and action taken by the government’.
After meeting with the unions, Home Minister Bamang Felix  informed the media that ‘omission or deletion of names from the Panchayati Raj rolls is not in the hands of the government but it is the sole discretion of the State Election Commission (SEC) who is an independent authority.'
He also said that Vijoynagar was discovered way back in 1962 and Government of India has allowed the Ex-Armymen and Yobin  community to settle in the area.
'Ex-Armymen and Yobin community who are settled in the area were jointly participating in the Panchayti Raj election since 1976. Ex-Armymen remained non-APSTs, whereas Yobin community got APST status only in 2018 and now they are demanding deletion of names of Ex-Armymen,' stated the Home Minister.
Though the state government has no role in the issue but we will do whatever posible, he said.
I have suggested them to file objection application against the Non-APST of Vijoynagar to concerned ERO/DEO or to the  State Election Commission (SEC) as the Panchayat enrolment process is going on in the state, clarified the Home Minister.
