PASIGHAT, Jun 11:  In a bizarre incident which took place on June 9 last, a small-time trader was brutally attacked by machete wielding persons causing grievous injuries on his arms and back.

 

In a press release issued by Tonning Pertin, President, Mariyang Area Intellectual Forum (MAIF), informed the two extortionists Toram Jopir and Nin Boli came to the residence of Apaying Tayeng at Yingkiong town and demanded money. Upon his refusal the duo attacked Tayeng who is a small time businessman and is engaged in selling poultry for his livelihood.’

 

Following a case registered at Yingkiong PS, the duo have been arrested by police. While appreciating the immediate action of the police, MAIF has sought the investigating agency to expedite the investigation for timely trial of the case and demanded for exemplary punishment to both attackers.
