Sagalee, Jun 14: Keeping in tune with the state government’s recently launched initiative of having 2000 nutritional kitchen gardens and 1 farm cluster per assembly constituency to achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture and horticulture related products, former Chief Minister and 15-Sagalee MLA Nabam Tuki convened a meeting here at the ADC Mini Secretariat on June 12 last to discuss the ways and means of achieving the target in his constituency.
Tuki discussed in detail about the programme and instructed the officers to identify a suitable land for the farm cluster and encourage the locals to take up nutritional kitchen gardens. Members present in the meeting felt that the District Empowered Committee alone will not be able to coordinate with various departments and stakeholders at the grassroots level. As a solution, a sub-divisional level Empowered Committee headed by the ADC (Independent) Sagalee was constituted with the approval of the MLA to aid the District Empowered Committee. Later, Tuki handed over 10 heavy duty sprayers and mist blowers donated by Techi Rotu to the ADC Office. After a threadbare discussion a government-owned land was selected for the Farm Cluster and a team comprising the BDOs of Sagalee & Mengio, Kapa Rai and Tana Bapu respectively, ADO Sagalee Punyo Uya, HDO Sagalee Tapi Tabing and CO Silsango Dr. R. Tabiyo inspected the site and found the land to be suitable.
Circle Officer suggested the MLA to keep the provision for converting the farm cluster into a demonstration centre for giving practical training to the district’s farmers in near future. He further suggested that it should be gradually made to function as an integrated system of farming in subsequent phases as the land already has three fish ponds along with a fair-weather approach road.
As the nutritional kitchen garden target is already the ongoing programme under ArSLRM Sagalee branch, the ArSLRM team was directed to coordinate with the BDOs to finalise the beneficiaries so that further course of actions such as training, land preparation etc. can be accelerated. DIPRO
