ITANAGAR, Dec 8: Dr.Gomi Basar and Dr.Obang Perme of TRIHMS have been conferred post-MD fellowship in Diabetes management and Dr.Tani Siram from BPGH, Pasighat in Family Medicine from Christian Medical College, Vellore today.
Dr. Basar and Dr. Perme are the first two from Arunachal Pradesh to have done this specialisation in Diabetes from CMC Vellore under Dr. Nihal Thomas, Professor & Head of Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism. Dr. Basar is from Nyigam village of Leparada dist and Dr. Perme is from Bomi village, Mariyang in Upper siang. Dr.Siram is also first from the state to have specialised in Family Medicine from CMC, and is from Yeksi village in Siang.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the incidence of Diabetes and pre-Diabetes together is about 18%, which is alarmingly high. Management of diabetes is a holistic challenge which requires the presence of an integrated team including physician/diabetologist, diabetes educator, dietician, physiotherapist, foot care technician in Integrated Diabetes Clinic.
 It is worth mentioning here that more indigenous doctors from the state are touching many specialties from prestigious institutes like CMC Vellore.
