BASAR, Nov 5:Chief Minister Pema Khandu today said that Arunachali youths have tremendous potential in sports but acknowledged that the state lacked adequate infrastructure to support their aspirations. 

He was speaking at the inauguration of Gumin Rego Kilaju (GRK) Football Academy here at Todak Basar Memorial Stadium in presence of State BJP President Tapir Gao, Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra, Home Minister Kumar Waii, Parliamentary Secretaries Jarkar Gamlin and Gojen Gadi including Nari Koyu MLA Kento Rina.  

The CM in his speech also informed that he had asked the union sports ministry for sports stadiums and asked the respective districts to submit proposal for it. 

Khandu informed that all sports stadium funded under SPA whose funding stopped due to discontinuation of the scheme will now be funded by state government. He further informed that to hone the skills of youths in sports, the state government will try to meet up requirement of coaches.  

Appreciating the step taken by GRK in opening a football academy, the Chief Minister assured support from state government and contributed Rs 10 lakhs from his personal means.  

An exhibition match was played between CM XI and GRK XI which the latter won by 1 goal. 

 Khandu also felicitated Kojum Taba in recognition of his outstanding achievements in weightlifting. He also facilitated body builder Paklu Taipodia and Arm Wrestler Pakjar Taipodia.
