ITANAGAR, Sep 21: The All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) led by its president, Dobing Sonam, on Saturday met Union Minister of State for Railways, Suresh Angadi here and submitted a representation demanding the introduction of a new train from Naharlagun to Guwahati, and one which runs in the day time.
The AAPPTF in its representation stated that a large number of passengers who travel to Guwahati from Naharlagun or Itanagar prefer doing so only at the day time, and the present ones run, either early in the morning or at night from Naharlagun.
The Shatabdi express which runs three days in a week departs from the Naharlagun railway station at 5 am while the Donyi Polo Express which runs daily leaves the station at 6.45 in the evening.
The AAPPTF also urged the Union Minister to increase the timing of the rail ticket counter from 8 am to 2 pm to 8 am to 8 pm. The current timing, the federation said is depriving the people of far flung areas from getting the tickets at the normal rate, as by the time they reach the counter it normally gets closed.
Increasing manpower in the Naharlagun railway station and the introduction of an ATM facility in the station premises were the other demands of the Federation.
It was informed that the MoS was positive towards the demands placed forth by the AAPPTF.
