ITANAGAR, Oct 30: A two-day State Level Training of Trainers (ToT) on Preparation of School Disaster Management Plan (SDMP) organised by the Department of Disaster Management concluded today.
The objectives of the training was to ensure that all schools prepare comprehensive SDMPs so that in case of any eventuality, especially during fire and earthquake, response time is minimized and all children and teachers are aware of their respective roles and responsibilities. By 2020-21, Department of Disaster Management aims to have DM plans in all schools across the state for creating safe environments for children and building a disaster resilient community as a whole.
Secretary, Disaster Management Dani Sulu stressed on creating safe environment for children in schools from natural as well as man-made disasters and touched upon the psycho-socio aspects faced by children especially in hostels. Additional Secretary, Education Repo Ronya affirmed the importance of the programme and instructed all participants to acquire the training inputs.Resource Person and Deputy Director, Education T.Talomspoke on National School Safety Policy and its implementation and monitoring in Arunachal Pradesh. Resource Persons from Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Mukta Ram Deka and Kripal Jyoti Majumdar gave presentations on hazards, vulnerability, structural & non- structural aspects of SDMP. A field visit to a school was made and a practical session with presentation from the participants was conducted. Inspector Sonowal from 12th Bn NDRF spoke on the formation of task force and importance of fire safety in schools.  Secretary, Industry, Trade & Commerce N T Glow distributed certificates to all the 88 participants from districts consisting of DDSE, BEO, DRCC, Lecturers, Teachers, representatives from SCERT & DIET, officers from Education Department & Disaster Management Departments and representatives from various private schools of Capital Complex area.
