ITANAGAR, Feb 14:The First lady of the State Smt Neelam Misra visited the craft centre of the department of Textile and Handicrafts in the Industrial Estate, Naharlagun today. She went around various sections of the craft centre, including the Computer-Aided Design Centre, which is first of its kind in the Industrial Estate.

Interacting with the officials and artisans, the First Lady of the State emphasised that production of indigenous handlooms and handicrafts must be promoted amongst the youth. She said that the age old traditional handloom and handicraft traditions, like weaving, Thanka painting, wooden mask making and exotic wood carving are the pride and identity of the indigenous communities and it must be promoted and preserved.

By motivating and encouraging the youth, particularly the young girls, we will be able to promote their inborn artistic potentials and enhance, in large measures, the avenues for youth entrepreneurships, self employment and socio-economic empowerment, she further said.

She further advised the departmental officials to open outlets in metros and other places for authentic traditional products of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Director, Textile and Handicrafts, Haj Dodung briefed the First Lady about the centre.
