ITANAGAR, Nov 9: At least 19 traders have been booked by a mobile inspection team of Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs for unfair trade practices including violating the packaged foods rules.
The team was led by Deputy Controller HQ D. Marbom, and TN Tara, DCLM West Zone conducted surprise inspections at Niti Vihar, Mob-II and Panchali today and detected 17 irregularities in the use of weight and measures and two cases in selling of packaged commodities, under Itanagar Capital Complex. 19 cases of irregularities in use of weights and measures have been booked under the provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and 2 two cases under packaged commodities Rules, 2011 for non-display of mandatory declaration on retail packages and a case for selling cold drinks above MRP. The team also instructed traders on correct use of weights and measures and timely renewal /verification of weights and measures possessed by them. The traders were also cautioned on selling of packaged items that do not carry mandatory information as well as selling beyond MRP as required under the PC Rules. Further, the packers of packaged commodities who are yet to get registration have been suggested for getting themselves registered under the provision of Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011 at the earliest.
