KHONSA, Mar 2: In a major blow to extortions going around in Tirap, one Md Karim Khan @Kalu, a permanent resident of Lekhapani, Assam was arrested by Khonsa police today for series of extortions from government officials, bazar committee members and common citizens of the town by claiming himself to be a member of NSCN outfit.
Initially police had received inputs from aggrieved persons regarding life threatening calls and extortion demands of lakhs of rupees from unknown mobile numbers which was later identified as Md Karim Khan @ Kalu. Accordingly police swung into action and managed to intercept the extortionist after much effort and later arrested him.
Extortion money of Rs 20900.00, traces of suspected brown sugar or heroin, machetes, mobile phones with five sim cards used for demanding extortion money, etc were recovered and seized from the possession of the accused. KSA PS C/NO 10/2020 u/s 384/506 IPC r/w sec 10/13 of UA(P) Act 1967 has been registered against the accused upon reciept of FIR and detail investigation is on.
As per records, accused Karim Khan has had run-ins with the law. Itanagar PS case no 281/2018 u/s 380/454 IPC and Khonsa PS case no 50/2013 u/s 427/324/506/34 IPC are registered against him which are under trial in different courts.
SP Khonsa Kardak Riba, congratulated the team under the leadership of Inspector W.Kamhua, OC PS Khonsa who worked tirelessly in solving the case and also requested the public and government officials not to fall pray of such extortionist. DIPRO
