Khonsa, Feb 12: Tirap celebrated the achievement of 100% FHTC saturation under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) which was graced by the Minister PHED, DoTCL & IT. The celebration of the achievement of 100% FHTC saturation under JJM in Tirap District was a significant milestone for the community, and the event was a momentous occasion that brought together key stakeholders and leaders.
During the event, Bharat Sonam, Executive Engineer of PHED, provided an overview of the water status in Tirap and presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the JJM in the district, operation and maintenance of water supply systems, the Arunachal Pradesh Protection of Drinking Water Catchment Areas Act 2023, and the issues and challenges related to water supply in the TCL region. This comprehensive overview served to inform and educate the gathering about the various facets of water management and infrastructure in the region.
ZPC Tirap, Chattong Lowang, commended the team at PHED Tirap for their successful implementation of the JJM and for ensuring universal access to clean water, emphasizing the importance of continued support for PRI members and VWSC in maintaining the water supply assets.
In his address, Tana Bapu, the in-charge Deputy Commissioner, congratulated the people of Tirap for attaining the goal of Har Ghar Jal under JJM and stressed the need for protecting catchment areas to sustain water sources for the future. This focus on conservation and sustainability demonstrates a proactive approach to safeguarding the precious water resources that the community relies upon.
The Minister of PHED Wangki Lowang  led a pledge, highlighting the significance of water and sanitation and informing participants about the best practices for water utilization. He also underscored the legislative efforts to safeguard water sources, specifically referencing the Arunachal Pradesh Protection of Drinking Water Catchment Area Act 2023. His emphasis on the Act not being intended to cause inconvenience but to raise awareness about the importance of protecting water catchment areas exemplifies a balanced approach to legislation and community engagement.
Furthermore, the Minister conveyed concern regarding the future of water sources in the TCL region based on hydrological reports, demonstrating a commitment to evidence-based decision-making and proactive planning for the future. His recognition of the tireless efforts and commitment of the PHED fraternity in successfully completing the mission underscores the value of their dedication to the community's well-being.
The ceremony culminated with the recognition of the five best-performing VWSCs, who were awarded certificates, mementoes, and cash prizes by the Minister, acknowledging their pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of water supply assets. This acknowledgement serves to incentivize and empower local stakeholders, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility towards maintaining the gains achieved through the JJM.
