KHONSA, Sep 14: A huge quantity of Tobacco products including foreign liquor, beer etc were seized during raids carried out by the District Administration, District Tobacco Control Cell and Police led by Town Magistrate at various kiosks within 100 metre radius of educational institutions.
While seizing the Tobacco products – Town Magistrate Lim Modi informed that sale of foreign liquor, Tobacco products etc, within a distance of 100 metres from educational institutions is illegal, which is punishable under the COTPA. However, no penalty was imposed on the offenders for the first time and they were let off after a warning.
Also reiterating that no tobacco product or any intoxicating substances including foreign liquor can be sold to person below 18 years, Deputy Commissioner PN Thungon said seller is mandated to ensure that the buyer is not a minor. A display signboard must be put up at the premises of shops and educational institutions declaring the same, the DC added. DIPRO
