ITANAGAR, Oct 10: Two Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) and one supervisor of Arunachal received national awards in the National Poshan Award ceremony held in New Delhi today. CDPOs Mailong Taku Moyong, Mebo ICDS Project, East Siang and Shilakani Namshum, Lekang ICDS Project, Namsai were awarded block level leadership award.   Nuri Elapra was awarded as Individual Excellence Field functionary.
 The National Poshan awards is instituted by Union Ministry of Women & Child Development to recognise exemplary performers in the recently concluded Rashtriya Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) under scheme POSHAN Abhiyaan of the Prime Minister. POSHAN Abhiyaan scheme through use of technology is a targeted approach in convergence with related departments strives to reduce the level of stunting, under-nutrition, anemia and low birth weight in children
For the Poshan Awards the whole country was divided into four groups. Arunachal Pradesh was under Group 2 along with Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.  The states and UTs were asked to send nominations for various categories like field functionary awards for Anganwadi worker, ASHA, ANM, and supervisors under ICDS, Village Convergence award, Leadership award for block and district officers, State level awards for Best Social Media Campaign, maximum reach and best innovative use of non-conventional methods.

Mailong Taku Moyong, 51 year-old CDPO since 1997, put in extra efforts in the campaign of the Poshan Abhiyaan in her block and in the district of East Siang. She organised Recipe competition among village women to create awareness on nutrition. She had been instrumental in crafting a song for Poshan Abhiyaan in Adi language which was recorded and played in all the events during Poshan Maah celebration. She was also part of Radio talk-shows in Hindi and local language aired through All India Radio, Pasighat, creating awareness on nutrition.
Shilakani Namshum, 53-year old CDPO showed exemplary leadership for the celebration of Rashtriya Poshan Maah. She organised various programs on nutrition and health along with Department of Health, Education, PHED & WS and district administration. She organised one of the biggest poshan melas in the state where traditional local foods were displayed by village women. She guided Anganwadi children making skits and plays using vegetable characters and explaining the source of vitamins for healthy body.
Nuri Elapra, supervisor under Tezu ICDS project, Lohit District was awarded Individual Excellence Field functionary Award. She ensured coverage of all Anganwadi centres and organised 19 activities along with line departments. Screening of anemia, demonstration of hand wash technique, weighing of pregnant women and children were covered. She was also appreciated for innovative use of technology, like using portable Bluetooth speakers to play messages on nutrition. Audio/video were played from mobile phones during home visits to counsel pregnant and lactating women.
