AALO, May 13: The mortal remains of the President, Galo Welfare Society Dr. Minge Loyi was laid to rest today at his Pakam residence, amid thousands of tearful mourners comprising family members, relatives, Central & District GWS Executive members, representatives of Galos and community based organizations.
Before the funeral, Dr. Loyi’s body was taken around the town to allow people to pay their last respects under the initiatives of GWS President West Siang, Kirba Sora and Secretary Nyage Loya.
Secretary GWS Marconi Potom, Acting President Marngu Kadu, representatives from Lepa Rada district Gomar Basar and Lower Siang Kendo Zirdo, President Women Wing GWS, M.Doji Ori, GLDC Yadam Loyi, Former GPF President Nyadar Loya, GSU President Mepe Ete, all hailed Dr. Loyi as an iron willed man and said that his death has created a deep vacuum but he will live in the hearts of all Galos for years to come for his solid contributions to society.
GWS President of the district read out the condolence messages that had poured in from Arunachal Indigenous Tribal Forum, Nishi Elite Society, Adi Baane Kebang, Mishing Baane Kebang, Tanw Supung Dukung, Mishmi Welfare Society, Christian Community of Basar Area and various other CBOs, societies, unions and associations of West Siang district. The Christian Forum and Central Donyi Polo Gamgi also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Meanwhile, the District administration Papum Pare, Heads of department of various departments and officials also mourned the untimely demise of Dr. Loyi, who was posted as District Veterinary Officer, Papum Pare at DC office Yupia today. ADC Tabang Bodung alongwith all officers and officials expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
Dr. Loyi who was on life support after suffering a cardiac arrest passed away on May 11 while being taken to his hometown Aalo from Guwahati. As a widely respected and loved personality, he will always be remembered as the guiding force behind completion of Tak Soi Mission, creation of Lepa Rada and Lower Siang districts, establishment of Galo Heritage cum Cultural Centre at Naharlagun and overall development and unification of the Galos during his short stint as the head of Galo society.
