TAWANG, Oct 23: A review meeting to discuss about preparations for the proposed village tourism programme to be conducted as a part of Tawang Festival was conducted today here at the DC Conference Hall with hoteliers, taxi operators and representatives of Dingsum Kharsaneng area, chaired by I/c DC Tawang Lobsang Tsering.
Festival Director, Tawang Festival Tsetan Chombay and District Tourism Officer Tsering Deki also attended the meeting. I/c DC informed that the said event which is scheduled on October 30, the 3rd day of the festival is an effort to involve villagers directly into tourism promotion and Kharsaneng area has been chosen because its proximity to headquarters and the heritage site of Chagzam (14th century Iron Chain Bridge) Hotspring at Grengkhar which is also the birth place of Yum Tsewang Lhamo, mother of the 6th Dalai Lama.
Festival Director said that it will be their endeavour to engage maximum unemployed youths and villagers in the village tourism programme. Along with the attraction due to the place’s historical significance, traditional way of village life, Monpa delicacies, art games and sports will be the other items of interest, he added while seeking cooperation from villagers, taxi operators and hoteliers to make it successful.
Representatives of Dingsum Kharsaneng area, hoteliers and taxi operators also gave their suggestions during meeting. DIPRO
